Vice President of software Engineering

Location: Zürich, Switzerland

Position type: Full-time

Start date: 01/03/2026

About the role

We are seeking a visionary and transformative VP of Software Engineering to lead our talented software organization. Reporting to the CTO, you will execute our technology vision to fulfill clients’ needs and further the company’s growth ambitions. Based in Zurich you will be responsible for leading a team of 40+ engineers, encompassing front-end, back-end, and DevOps.

You will be accountable for ensuring high-paced software delivery and shipping of code, maintaining high engineering standards, and fostering technical and product innovation. You will nurture a healthy engineering ethos, high performance, meritocracy, and data-driven decision making, where talented engineers can grow and thrive.

What you will do

Lead and cultivate a high-performance culture:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire our managers and leaders across engineering, cultivating a collaborative and healthy engineering ethos of trust, transparency, and intellectual honesty.
  • Champion a performance culture that balances accountability with empowerment — setting clear expectations, providing continuous feedback, and enabling teams to innovate and grow.
  • Identify, nurture, and develop high-performing engineers and leaders, creating clear paths for growth and ensuring top talent is recognized, empowered and retained.
  • Drive recruitment, engagement and development of top engineering talent, fostering an environment where creativity and technical excellence can thrive.

Drive technological innovation and strategy:

  • Drive the evolution of our technology stack, championing the adoption of modern, state-of-the-art technologies, architectures, and frameworks that align with the company objectives and technology strategy.
  • Spearhead the integration of AI-driven development tools and methodologies to significantly enhance developer productivity, speed, code quality, and overall efficiency.
  • Develop and implement engineering standards, best practices, and operational procedures to ensure efficient and consistent code delivery.
  • Ensure our applications are reliable, secure, and scalable by applying best practices in cloud-native architecture and infrastructure management.

Execute with excellence and data-driven precision:

  • Collaborate closely with architects, the Head of Global Quality Engineering, product management, and key business stakeholders to align technology initiatives with business goals, effectively prioritizing projects and allocating resources.
  • Take full ownership of software development and DevOps processes, ensuring consistent and efficient delivery of high-quality products.
  • Define, implement, and manage a sophisticated set of KPIs and metrics (e.g., DevOps Research & Assessment metrics) to create a data-informed environment. You will be on top of team productivity, drive continuous improvement, and ensure accountability.
  • Oversee the software engineering budget and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

What you will bring

  • Proven experience as a senior engineering leader (e.g., VP, Head, or Director of Engineering) with a track record of leading and scaling high-performing, multi-team engineering organizations, and shipping world-class software apps and services.
  • Demonstrated success in developing engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
  • Deep, hands-on technical background in software development and architecture, with experience leading teams through significant technological transformations.
  • Demonstrable experience implementing and leveraging AI-powered tools and modern software development practices to drive engineering efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of modern technology stacks (e.g., Java and related frameworks, databases, cloud infrastructure) with the ability to engage on technical topics when needed.
  • Expertise in establishing and managing data-driven engineering cultures, using KPIs and metrics to measure and improve team performance and delivery.
  • Experience in diverse corporate environments, bringing a wealth of external knowledge and best practices to challenge the status quo and inspire innovation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
