About RepRisk

RepRisk Approach

–  RepRisk's assessment of the environmental and social performance of a company is based on the company's activities in the field as observed by independent third parties, and is not derived from information provided by the company itself.
–  RepRisk provides data that is updated daily.
–  Our quantitative risk measure - the RepRisk Index - is derived entirely from third-party opinions and objective criteria.
–  As we search for controversial issues, our research is not limited to a specific set of companies or investment universe. As of January 2009, RepRisk had identified 8,400 listed and non-listed companies as well as 1,500 projects that are viewed as controversial. On average five new controversial companies and projects are identified and entered into the database every day.
–  RepRisk covers controversial issues ranging from employee and community relations to resource availability and efficiency, environmental footprint and product-portfolio related risks. In particular all principles of the UN Global Compact are addressed.
–  Our data entry is based on a business risk framework and free from any ethical judgment.
Research Methodology

Our topic experts:
–  Identify controversial issues with search tools that monitor the media, NGOs, newsletters, news sites, blogs and other websites on a daily basis;
–  Select relevant news and provide executive abstracts; and
–  Link controversial issues to involved companies, projects, sectors, NGOs, campaigns, and governmental bodies.
–  Assign strictly rule-based ratings to the individual news concerning relevance of the news source, the news' severity and novelty providing the basis for the quantitative reputational risk measure, the RepRisk Index.

RepRisk Index

The RepRisk Index (RRI) is an indicator of a company's or project's exposure to controversial issues. It allows an initial assessment of risks which are attached to investments and business relationships.

The RRI supports you when assessing risks by highlighting relevant exposures. It also allows you to compare the exposure of an entity with its peers and to track risk trends over time.

The Peak RepRisk Index (Peak RRI) gives the maximum RRI value in the last 24 months. Whereas the current RRI of a company or project measures the present level of criticism it faces, the Peak RRI is an indicator of the environmental, social, reputational, and investment risk associated with a company or project.
